On October 14, China’s National Development and Reform Commission officially issued the Administrative Measures for Central Budget Investment in Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction. The document clearly states support for green methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production projects, injecting powerful momentum into the industry.
The Measures specify that within the category of low-carbon, zero-carbon, and negative-carbon demonstration projects, green methanol production, SAF production, and large-scale Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects are key areas for funding support. This explicit inclusion provides the green methanol sector with clear policy backing and financial assurance—significantly reducing investment pressure and encouraging broader industrial participation.
A Promising Market Outlook
Green methanol is produced from agricultural and forestry residues, biogenic CO₂, renewable-energy-based hydrogen, biogas, and other sustainable feedstocks through gasification, hydrogenation, and catalytic synthesis. As a clean alternative to traditional fuels, it holds immense potential, particularly in aviation and maritime applications.
